Master Class

The FBNPA Regional Summit provides important insights into the wide range of challenges faced by family businesses. The FBNPA Master Class following the Summit is designed for family teams to help them explore how best to move forward and effectively benefit from the insights gained throughout the Summit. Research in how families learn has shown that they require a platform for key family members to come together to share learnings and exchange views, in addition to careful and pragmatic guidance highlighting key issues.

Programme Overview

This Master Class will be conducted by Professor Dr Joachim Schwass, one of the most respected experts in the field of family business. Firstly, the key learnings from the Summit will be captured and their relevance explored for the participants. Subsequently, short cases of award-winning leading family businesses will be used as a working base for family teams to focus on the key issues of:

  • Strategy
  • Governance
  • Succession
  • Communication

Roundtable and plenary discussions will flag the challenges and opportunities faced by the participating family teams and help develop frameworks and solutions. Lessons from dynastic and global leading family businesses will indicate how best to move forward in an effective, practical and integrative way.

Learning Objectives

  • Conduct an overall Family Business ‘Health-check’ – Are we doing the right things and are we doing things right?
  • Learn from dynastic family businesses about strategies and governance structures.
  • Allow for diverse family members to gain a better perspective of family, ownership and business issues by providing an intensive, shared learning and discussion platform
  • Develop a Personalised Framework

Who Should Attend

Participants are encouraged to attend as family teams, ideally from different generations. This will enhance a shared understanding and identification of issues, and ideas on how to best move forward. The learning methodology is based on over 20 years of meaningful research and pragmatic education of many of the world's leading privately and family owned businesses and family offices.
